Hospital Visiting

Hospital visits for the deaf and hard of hearing

Being in hospital is not usually an enjoyable experience, and for those who are deaf or hard of hearing, it can be particularly challenging, as hospital staff are rarely BSL trained or trained in deaf awareness, and are often very busy, allowing them little time to spend with those who might need more time and attention than the average patient when explaining treatments, medication or other matters relating to their hospital stay.

ODCD is pleased to be able to help support those who are deaf or hard of hearing during these particularly difficult times. Our Chaplains, Katie and Vera, supported by a team of volunteers are able to visit you in hospital and help provide communication support to make your hospital stay easier and ensure that you are kept fully informed about your care.
